Introduction:
Hello. My name is Casey Brown. I am an Elementary Education major at Bowie State University. I am currently enrolled in an Educational Technology course which has introduced me to Wikis.
My Philosophy of Education: My philosophy of education involves many key factors to produce a positive learning environment. The teacher, students, and parents are at the core in producing educated youth with management and discipline being the mantle. I hope to create a strong foundation that will bring into being student that are positive, well balanced and willing to learn.
In order for there to be a positive environment you have to start with what the student will notice first, the classroom. Some of the things I would like to incorporate in my classroom are positive reinforcement, structure, consistency, and smooth transitions. In order for the students to feel that are achieving I would like them to feel positive about the work they are doing. I would make sure that when a student does a good job they are rewarded with praise. Structure and consistency are also keys in a positive learning environment. I would make sure that I am well organized and the students know what is planned to be accomplished in class every day. Transitions are also important in class. A teacher has to be able to move efficiently from one subject to the next without causing chaos. These elements are significant to the overall goal that I will try to achieve.
In the classroom environment the main objective is learning. In my classroom I would want the students to feel safe and secure while they are learning. To create this I would make sure that the students feel comfortable in their surrounding. I would like to have positive posters around the class that the students can relate to. I would also make sure the student feel at ease talking to me about a problem they may have and if they do not feel comfortable talking to me about their problem then they have someone else they can turn to. In order for a learning environment to make the students feel safe and secure the students would have a uniform front with management and discipline.
I believe that everyone should be accountable and consistent on the approach to management and discipline. To create this front each student should be well aware of the consequences of their negative actions and the rewards for positive behavior. The students should know what would happen to them before they break a rule. In order for this to be achieved the teacher as well as the staff would have to fully commit to enforcing each and every rule. The teacher is key in the uniformity since he or she is the one the students are with everyday.
The teacher’s role in education is the most significant role in the teaching-learning process. The student’s outcome depends on the teacher’s approach. I believe that if you have a positive outlook on a situation, then you will have a positive result. The teacher has to be positive about the learning process to achieve success in the classroom. If a teacher is negative, then he or she will not be able to motivate the students to learn and the ultimate goal of educating the students will not be achieved.
It is very important to be able to help all students in the learning process. When I began to teach I realize that I will have a very diverse classroom. In my efforts to meet the needs of my entire class I would try to meet all the different types of leaning styles. I would make sure that my kinesthetic learners always have a hands on project they can do and visual learns have something they can see and relate to instead of just listening to my lectures. In a diverse classroom it is also important for the student to be able to share their differences with other students. This will possibly bring the students together once they realize that they all have something to share with one another.
As I state before the teacher is not the only person involved in the learning process. The parents as well as the community have an effect on the student. The parents must be one hundred percent committed to their child’s education in order for there to be a strong foundation for education. The parents have to actively communicate with the teacher to know how well or how poorly their child is doing in the classroom. If there is good communication between the parents and the teacher there should be a positive correlation on the child’s education. The community also plays a key role in the learning process. The support the community gives the school is directly link to success, positive support equates to a successful school and educated students.
In my philosophy of education the key component is the foundation. The support from the parents as well as the community is essential in the student’s success. Hopefully with structure, discipline, support and positive reinforcement the students as well as the teacher can help to create a learning environment where the ultimate goal of education is achieved. I hope this philosophy will help meet the needs of the diversity that I will encounter in my classroom. With my philosophy I hope to produce students who are well balance and focused on learning.
